Each year, youth of the Independent Afrikan Minds (I AM program) embark upon a journey of self-discovery which includes critical study of the African Diaspora and becoming cultural ambassadors. This entails developing communication skills, demonstrating innovativeness, and embodying the dignity of African culture. As a component of their ambassadorship, youth participants use the arts to express new ideals about the relationship between African and her descendants in the Diaspora. Specifically, each youth cohort is challenged to produce photography and video projects with the intention of generating dialogue, awareness, and action towards various issues. The projects are shared with communities in Ghana and Ethiopia upon our annual summer travel and the youth return with media projects to share with the Diasporan community. The following gallery features films produced by youth participants in the I AM program.
